Wedding Cars in Ghana: Convoys, Prices and How to Book from Abroad

7 min read · Facts checked 13 October 2026

Quick answer: Wedding transport in Ghana is usually sold as a convoy package: a decorated bridal car, matching cars for the wedding party and often a minibus for guests, all with uniformed drivers for the day. One Accra firm, AccraDrive, publishes packages from GH₵2,400 (a decorated Camry plus two sedans) up to GH₵7,500 (a Mercedes-Benz bridal car, a four-car convoy and a Hiace shuttle). Most couples book 4–8 weeks ahead, and 8–12 weeks for October to January and Easter, the peak wedding season. If you're planning from London or Houston, get every detail in writing and nominate someone on the ground.

A Ghanaian wedding rarely runs to a single ceremony at a single venue. There's often a traditional engagement (the "knocking" and the marriage rites), a church or registry service, photographs somewhere beautiful, and a reception that goes on long after dark. Sometimes it's all on the same day. The cars tie the whole thing together, and when they're late, everyone notices.

This guide explains how wedding car hire works in Ghana, what it costs according to published prices, and how to manage it all from abroad.

How wedding car hire works in Ghana

Very few couples hire a single car. The norm is a convoy, which in Accra traffic is as much about logistics as looks. A typical setup might be:

  • The bridal car, decorated with ribbons and flowers. A Toyota Camry is a common standard choice, with a Mercedes-Benz E-Class or similar as an upgrade.
  • Two to four matching saloons for the bridal party and close family.
  • A minibus or MPV (often a Toyota Hiace) to move guests between venues.

The cars come with drivers, normally uniformed, and are booked for the whole day. That matters, because the gap between the bride leaving home and the couple arriving at the reception can easily be eight hours.

What it costs: published prices

We've found only a handful of firms that publish wedding prices online. Most quote on WhatsApp. AccraDrive's weddings page (checked 13 October 2026) shows three packages:

Package What's included (as published) Price
Classic Convoy Decorated Camry bridal car + 2 guest sedans, chauffeured, full day GH₵2,400 per event
Grand Convoy Decorated bridal car, 3 sedans + 1 MPV guest shuttle, full day GH₵4,200 per event
Signature Affair Mercedes-Benz bridal car, 4-car convoy, Hiace shuttle, coordinator GH₵7,500 per event

It also lists optional photography add-ons from GH₵1,200 to GH₵6,800, and a discount for booking both traditional and white wedding days. We quote these as a published reference point, not a recommendation. Other firms will price differently, and you should always get your own written quote.

If you'd rather build your own convoy from standard chauffeur hire, the general market gives you a sense of scale. KAYAK's Accra page puts luxury rentals at around $237 a day and SUVs at about $165 (self-drive averages, checked October 2026). Transparent Rentals publishes a full chauffeured day in Accra at $140. Multiply by the number of cars and you'll quickly see why packages exist.

When to book

AccraDrive suggests 4–8 weeks as typical, and 8–12 weeks for October to January and Easter weekend. That chimes with the general advice for the festive season: Secure Travel and Tours' Detty December guide recommends locking in chauffeured cars by October.

Honestly, if your wedding falls between mid-December and New Year, book the cars when you book the venue. You're competing not just with other weddings but with every diaspora visitor in Accra wanting a driver for the same fortnight.

Planning a convoy from abroad

This is where diaspora couples tend to get caught out. You might be choosing cars from a phone screen in Manchester, with a cousin in Accra doing the legwork. A few things make it far less stressful.

Put one person in charge on the ground. Give the firm a single local contact, ideally your planner or a calm, organised relative, and tell everyone else to route questions through them.

Share the full programme, not just the start time. List every address, every ceremony time and every leg of the day. Accra traffic around Spintex, Tetteh Quarshie and the Kasoa road is a known risk on wedding mornings. A good firm plans buffers around those pinch points rather than hoping for the best.

See the actual cars. Ask for a recent video of the specific vehicles, not stock photos. If colour matching matters to you (white cars, black cars, one make), say so in writing.

Agree the decoration early. AccraDrive, for instance, asks for at least three weeks' notice of your colour scheme so it can source matching ribbon and flowers. Without that notice it defaults to white and gold.

Ask about a backup car. Breakdowns happen. Find out whether a spare vehicle is on standby and what class it will be.

Confirm the evening before. Reconfirm drivers' names, phone numbers, plates and pickup times the night before, and make sure someone is reachable at every pickup point.

Questions to ask every firm

  1. Is the price per event, per day or per car? Does it include fuel?
  2. How many hours are included, and what is the overtime rate after the reception runs late?
  3. Are the drivers uniformed, and who coordinates them on the day?
  4. What decoration is included, and what costs extra?
  5. Is there a backup vehicle?
  6. What is the deposit, how is it paid, and what is the cancellation policy?
  7. Do you cover weddings outside Accra, and how are travel time and the drivers' overnight costs charged?
  8. Is insurance in place for passengers, and can I see the vehicles' documents?

Weddings outside Accra

Plenty of families hold weddings in hometowns: Kumasi, Cape Coast, the Volta Region. Most premium fleets are based in Accra, so ask whether the cars will travel from the capital (which adds hours and may mean an early start for drivers) or whether the firm has local partners. Kumasi has its own car hire firms too. See our Kumasi listings.

For a long-distance convoy, the safety advice for any highway applies. The UK FCDO recommends daylight travel on long trips outside major cities. Build the day so the guest shuttle isn't running back to Accra in the dark.

Don't forget the guests

Wedding guests flying in from abroad need to get from the airport, to the hotel and to the venues. A few practical ideas:

  • Arrange a block of airport transfers with one firm, and send guests their driver's details before they fly. The FCDO warns of impostors posing as drivers at the airport.
  • Run a shuttle loop between the main guest hotel and the venue at fixed times.
  • Put the transport plan in the wedding WhatsApp group, with one phone number to call.

A note on budgets

Prices above are in cedis. If you're paying from abroad, check the exchange rate on the day and ask whether the firm charges extra for card or international payments. Agree the currency in writing too. A quote of "4,200" means very different things in cedis and in dollars.

Other occasions

The same convoy approach works for engagements, milestone birthdays, church events and funerals, which in Ghana can be every bit as large as weddings. Several firms in our directory research list weddings and events alongside ordinary hire, so if you need transport for a big family occasion, it's worth asking for an event package.

Frequently asked questions

How much does a wedding car cost in Ghana?

Published prices from one Accra firm, AccraDrive, run from GH₵2,400 for a three-car convoy to GH₵7,500 for a Mercedes-led convoy with a guest shuttle and coordinator (checked October 2026). Other firms quote individually.

How far in advance should I book wedding cars in Ghana?

Typically 4–8 weeks, and 8–12 weeks for October to January and Easter, according to AccraDrive. For a December wedding, book as early as you can.

Can I book wedding cars in Ghana from the UK or US?

Yes. Many firms take bookings on WhatsApp and email. Have a trusted person on the ground, insist on written terms, and pay deposits only to businesses you can verify.

Do wedding car packages include a driver?

Generally yes. Convoy packages are almost always chauffeur-driven for the full day.

Can the cars match our wedding colours?

Usually. Give at least three weeks' notice of your colour scheme so decoration can be sourced to match.

Do Accra firms cover weddings in Kumasi or Cape Coast?

Some do, adding travel time and costs. Alternatively, look for local firms in the wedding city.
