Which days are public holidays?

Christmas Day (25 December), Boxing Day (26 December) and New Year’s Day (1 January) are public holidays in Ghana. Confirm opening hours and driver availability with the firm for those days.

Should I self-drive or hire a driver in December?

Traffic in Accra is at its heaviest over the festive season, and many trips run late at night. Most visitors find a driver easier; self-drive suits people who already know the roads.

Can I hire a car for the whole of my stay?

Yes. Many firms offer weekly or longer hire, with or without a driver. Ask for the full price in writing, including the driver’s allowances, fuel and overnight trips outside the city.
